Engineered non-porous material that is a composite of quartz crystals bound together by a polymer additive.
It has the general appearance of natural stone, but with a consistent pattern and color.
Mold and mildew resistant and needs no sealing.
Can be damaged by direct exposure to heat. When cooking, use heating pads to guard the counter top surface against direct exposure to hot cookwares.
Resistant to stains from juice, wine, coffee and other food substances, yet it is still best to wipe up spills immediately to prevent possible stains.
A natural product that does not have a uniform pattern or color. The appearance can vary widely between slabs, and even within a single slab.
Samples may differ from the actual stone as they may have been mined from a different part of the granite quarry or they may have color variances that give them a different appearance.
Must be sealed before first use and resealing is recommended at least once a year because of its porosity.
While granite counters are ordinarily considered to be stain-resistant, some pigments or oils can be absorbed into the surface that could cause discoloration. The sealer does not prevent this discoloration, but it slows down to allow more time for clean-up.
Extremely durable, scratch resistant, and invulnerable to water and heat. However, because it is a natural rock, it can be chipped and broken if abused, and is very difficult to repair.
